Yoga & Pregnancy FAQ

Browse through to find answers to FAQ and take the guesswork out of why you should choose Peaceful and Prenatal for your perinatal exercise classes.

  • Where are classes held?

Southington classes are held at Soul Space Yoga: 28 West Main St in Southington, CT

  • What should I bring to class?

Prenatal & Postpartum Yoga: A water bottle and your mat the rest is provided for you!

*Extra mats are available in the studio for your use as well.

Baby&Me Yoga: A small blanket, 1-2 small toys (no lights or sounds please), and anything you need to diaper/feed your baby. Mats are provided for you.

  • How is this different from a normal yoga class?

The biggest difference you will find in our classes is the extensive knowledge these classes include and teach you about pregnancy and postpartum. The goal is to educate you about what’s happening to your body and why so you can take control of your journey.

These classes go beyond just offering yoga poses, but teaching you ways to move your body that will protect and support you and your baby. The tools you learn in class will support you through all 4 trimesters and help you feel empowered.

  • What does each class entail?

Our classes are designed to stretch, strengthen, educate, and bring peace to your being. Classes are structured to support you during your specific phase of pregnancy or postpartum. As a bonus, you’ll have time to connect with other mamas in class, creating and strengthening friendships each week.

  • When should I start prenatal yoga?

As soon as you find out you’re pregnant, you are welcome to join. I understand that the first trimester brings on fatigue and other not-so-pleasant sensations like heartburn and nausea, and these are all things I can adjust for you into our practice. Most mamas join around 14 weeks when they enter their second trimester and have a return of energy. It all depends on how you feel - listen to your body and join when you feel ready.

  • I'm late into my pregnancy, when is it too late to join?

It is never too late to join for prenatal yoga! I encourage mamas to continue with classes until they give birth to keep their hips, pelvis, and minds open and ready. At the end of your pregnancy, I will offer options to you to make the practice more accessible to you as it becomes more difficult and tiresome to move.

  • When should I start postpartum yoga?

Most doctors give clearance to return to exercise around 6-8 weeks postpartum. Depending on your pregnancy and birthing experience, this will change when your body feels ready to return to the mat. Most mamas find themselves ready to return around 10 weeks postpartum, but it is highly individual to each person.

  • What if I have something I need to be careful of (SPD, diastasis, back pain, etc)?

When you fill out your waiver for class, please include anything you’re dealing with and I will make sure to include cues and options in class that will keep you safe. As a perinatal professional, I have the education, knowledge, and resources to make sure practice is still safe and accessible for you. If you’re working with a PT, you can have them send me your treatment plan and I will include some of the same exercises into our classes as they’ll likely benefit everyone involved.

  • What ages is baby&me yoga made for?

We have two sections of baby&me yoga to properly support your baby’s development and keep them engages and safe. One section is for 6 weeks to pre-crawling babies, and the other is for babies crawling to 18 months old.

  • What makes Peaceful and Prenatal different?

The support you will receive from this class is unmatched anywhere else you’ll go. I take your feedback and wants into consideration when planning each class. If there is something that I am not able to support you with, I will connect you with a local professional who can support you.

Best of all, you are not just a participant in a class, you are a member of a community. The friendships that I have seen formed in these classes will help you feel connected to other mamas who are on the same journey as you. You have time to chat before and after class, and you’ll get an invitation to our private FB Group to stay connected outside of the studio.

“I’ve lived in Connecticut my entire life so I have a lot of friends and family in the area still. The relationships I have made from this class have been more helpful to me during pregnancy than my life-long friendships because we’re all going through this together.”
